Celebrating everything Australians have achieved

yes_you_canIt's funny how as a 'Yes' person I have found it so hard to ask other people to do things I am unable to do. However I have been so fortunate to have so many people in my life that don't need to answer 'yes' as they just do it for me because they know it needs to be done.

flooded_Road_2I am not a person to highlight a tragedy.

So instead I'll just be a person that says FOR F#*KSAKE DON'T BE STUPID IN FLOOD WATERS! Get Out and Stay Out! and do your best to ensure other people and kids stay out too.

wivenhoe-damMuch has been made of the fears of the Floods reaching 1974 levels when disaster  swept through the Brisbane Valley however thanks to the lessons learnt from that event loss of life and property was dramatically reduced. Thanks to the Flood Mitigation Plan which despite massive flooding for a century was only built following the 74 by the State Builder Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen who did so on the promise that we would not see the damage to Queensland's economy and people ever again..... it seems he did a damn good job.

QUEENSLAND FLOODS & Pets

Fairfield, Dakabin, Toowoomba, Kingaroy and Gympie RSPCA shelters are closed due to flooding. For animal emergencies phone 1300 852 188 or 1300 ANIMAL (264 625) but please be patient - RSPCA call centre is experiencing very heavy traffic. Save this number for emergencies only.

If there is a chance you may need to evacuate then please make arrangements for your pets immediately. Sadly, it's possible you may not be able to take your pets with you if you are evacuated.

If you have a friend or member of the family who can look after your pets on a temporary basis then please arrange that as soon as possible. As we all know, pets are members of the family and if you are forced to leave them behind it will be heartbreaking. So please don't leave this decision to the last minute.
